The clock of life is ticking by , impossible to slow it down.
When I was a little girl
One day I looked in the mirror
I saw the happy face of a child
Loved and spoiled by all.
I will never forget the night
When the shadow of a spider
Gave me a terrible fright.
Another unforgettable moment was
When under the Xmass tree
A Shirley Temple doll I found.
What wonderful years
No worries no pain.
Tic Toc. The clock of life is ticking by impossible to slow it down
The dark clouds of war were upon us
One day I looked in the mirror
I saw the face of a worried teenager
Whose life was already stamped by prejudice
I was in a strange land Morocco no family nor friends
The sound of foreign languages around me
I felt lost for a time,
Made new friends, learned a lot
And went on with my life
I am homesick for my childhood
The dark clouds of war followed us
Bad news were coming our way.
But” after the rain comes the sunshine”
The war was over and I met the love of my life.
After we wed on an old ship we left
To a strange continent. Argentina
I started a new, no family, nor friends
The sound of foreign language around us
How difficult it was?
How often I cried for my mother
But we were young, strong and in love
And stood against the winds and storms
Life sent us.
Our first born son arrived.
We smiled again he gave us hope
We felt happy and invincible.
Tic toc. The clock of life is ticking by. No way to slow it down.
I looked in the mirror again
And saw a young woman
With two small children
In another strange land again, the United States
No family nor friends
The sound of another foreign language around us.
How difficult it was
How much responsibility on our shoulders
But ready to fulfill our dreams
For a better life for our children
We were young and strong so much in love
We stood against the winds and storms life sent us.
Work, work ,work was our motto,
As the years went by we felt happy
And more and more at home in this new land
Where we felt free.
So we became citizens, the proudest day of our life.
Tic Toc. The clock of life is ticking by. No way to slow it down.
We are in the 60-s now and I looked in the mirror again
I saw a hardworking successful business woman
2 growing boys , a husband
With a good job.
We were proud of our accomplishments.
We had lots of friends
And even on vacation to cape Cod we went.
Life was good and dreams came true
A great job offer brought us to California
My husband traveled a lot on business
And so he took me with him to Guatemala
We bought our first home
Life was good
Tic Toc. The clock of life is ticking by. No way to slow it down.
I looked in the mirror guess what I saw
A college student in her forty s with two
grown up sons.
We are in the 70 s now 2 weddings
In the family
And our first grand child arrived
How happy we were.
Went to Brasil twice with my spouse
Our life was an adventure
After Travel school got a job with
a cruise line free trips
Yearly was the bonus
The bad years were behind us
Life was good.
Tic toc. The clock of life is ticking by. No way to slow it down.
I looked in the mirror
A middle-aged woman with six grand children.
I see.
We got transferred to San Juan Puerto Rico
Four happy years there we spent
Living by the beach and making many friends.
The loss of my parents brought us sadness.
When back in California got my job back
More beautiful cruises we had
From Alaska to the Caribean
From the Adriatic sea to the Atlantic ocean.
Our life was an adventure, a dream come true.
Tic toc . The clock of life is ticking by. No way to slow it down.
I looked in the mirror and I see two retired people
Moving to Merced to live close
To our family.
Two sons and six grandchildren
We were so lucky to see them grow up
Take part in their lives
From swim meets to school plays
to soccer games and band reviews
to cheer leaders and jazz band
we were there for them
The Papa and Nana fan club
Life was good.
Tic Toc The clock of life is ticking by. No way to slow it down.
I look in the mirror and
An old woman looks back at me
I am alone now but have no regrets.
I lived a full life with many memories
With the best husband ever.
What else can I ask for?
We leave to this world our six college graduate
grand children who grew up
In a free country
Our American dream came true.
Life was good to us.
